leftover bread, preferably chewy white
or sourdough bread from a bakery
extra-virgin olive oil
garlic cloves
Method :
If the bread is not sliced, cut into
1/2 inch thick slices and toast in the toaster oven or, if you're making
a lot, toast on a baking sheet in a preheated 350oC
oven, turning once (it will take 6-7 minutes all together). When the bread is toasted, remove from
the oven and drizzle or brush olive oil onto both sides of the toasted
bread. Rub surface lightly with a clove of
garlic. Cut each slice into halves (or
quarter, if you have big slices from a large round loaf) and serve plain
or with dips as a snack, or to accompany soups and salads. Extras can cubed for croutons.
