Faluda (Sri Lankan Desserts) Recipe

Ingredients :

1 tsp basil seeds (optional)

1/2 cup water

1 tbsp rose syrup

2 cups milk

1 scoop vanilla ice cream

Method :

Soak basil seeds in water until needed. When ready to make drink, drain seeds.

In a tall glass mix the rose essence, milk and basil seeds. Stir well, add ice cream and serve with a long spoon and a big straw.

Serves 1

Variation - In Sri Lanka people make a green jelly, cut it into 5mm (1/4 inch) cubes and add a tablespoon of green jelly cubes to the drink.

Note - This dish shows the Muslim influence in Sri Lankan sweets and drinks. You can buy basil seeds in Asian grocery shops, but you can also make this drink without them.
