Spicy Pepper Nuts Recipe

Ingredients :

1/3 cup

treacle or golden syrup

butter

egg, beaten

plain flour

sugar

bicarbonate of soda

cinnamon

ground cloves

nutmeg

pinch freshly ground black pepper

sifted icing sugar for rolling

Method :
  1. Preheat oven to 180C and grease oven trays.
  2. In a pan, heat together treacle and butter, stirring until butter melts.
  3. Cool to temperature, stir in egg.
  4. Sift together flour, sugar, soda and spices.
  5. Stir into treacle mixture, mixing well.
  6. Cover and chill several hours or overnight.
  7. Shape dough by hand into 25mm balls.
  8. Arrange on prepared trays and bake for 12-14 minutes until firm.
  9. Cool on tray, roll biscuits in icing sugar to coat just before serving.
  10. Store in an airtight container.

Makes about 30

These biscuits store well in an airtight container for up to one week.
