Dairy Bread Recipe

Ingredients :

wheat meal self raising flour

salt

mustard powder

soft margarine

Edam cheese, grated

buttermilk

egg

lightly crushed fennel seeds (optional)

pinch cayenne pepper

Method :
  1. Heat the oven to 190oC (375oF), Gas 5.

  2. Line a 900 g loaf tin with greased foil.
  3. Sift together the flour, salt, mustard and cayenne pepper and add any bran remaining in the sieve.
  4. Beat in the margarine, cheese, buttermilk and egg and beat for 1-2 minutes, until smooth.
  5. Turn into the loaf tin, smooth the top and sprinkle with the seeds.
  6. Bake for 45 minutes, or until springy.

Serving Suggestion :

Serve warm with soup, or cheese and celery sticks.

Makes 1 X 900 g loaf.
