Date and Ginger Bread Recipes

bicarbonate of soda
ground
ginger
hard
margarine

Muscovado sugar
dried,
stoned dates, chopped
crystallized ginger, chopped

Method :
-
Stir
together the flour, baking powder, soda and ground ginger and rub in
the margarine.

Stir
in the sugar, dates and chopped ginger and mix to a soft dough with
the milk.

Turn
the mixture into a greased 1 lb (450 g) loaf tin and level the top.

Bake
in the oven at 350oF (180oC), Gas 4 for 1
hour.

Partly
cool in the tin, then turn on to a wire rack.

When
completely cold, wrap in foil and store for 1-2 days, before
serving.
Makes one 1 lb (450 g) loaf
