Method :
- Preheat oven to 350F, Gas 4.
- Grease and base line a 450 g loaf
tin.
- Chop the dates and pour on boiling
water.
- Leave to stand for 30 minutes.
- Stir together the sugar, butter
and egg.
- Mix the flour, soda, baking powder
and salt.
- Work in the egg mixture with the
dates and water.
- Add the walnuts and finely chopped
triticale sprouts.
- Mix thoroughly and put into the
prepared tin.
- Bake for 45 minutes.
- Leave in the tin for 5 minutes,
and then turn on to a wire rack to cool.
Note :
Serve this tea bread freshly baked,
sliced and spread with butter or margarine and honey if liked. It is
also very good spread with cream cheese.
