Date and Triticale Tea Bread Recipes

Ingredients :

75 g stoned dates

7 tbsp boiling water

100 g light soft brown sugar

1 tbsp melted butter

1 egg

150 g wholemeal flour

1 tsp bicarbonate of soda

1/2 tsp baking powder

pinch of salt

50 g chopped walnuts

25 g triticale sprouts

Method :
  1. Preheat oven to 350F, Gas 4.
  2. Grease and base line a 450 g loaf tin.
  3. Chop the dates and pour on boiling water.
  4. Leave to stand for 30 minutes.
  5. Stir together the sugar, butter and egg.
  6. Mix the flour, soda, baking powder and salt.
  7. Work in the egg mixture with the dates and water.
  8. Add the walnuts and finely chopped triticale sprouts.
  9. Mix thoroughly and put into the prepared tin.
  10. Bake for 45 minutes.
  11. Leave in the tin for 5 minutes, and then turn on to a wire rack to cool.

Note :

Serve this tea bread freshly baked, sliced and spread with butter or margarine and honey if liked. It is also very good spread with cream cheese.
