Wheaten Bread Recipe

Ingredients :

plain flour

salt

bicarbonate of soda

brown flour

buttermilk

Method :

Preheat oven to 230C Gas Mark 8. Lightly flour a baking sheet. Sift the plain flour, salt and bicarbonate of soda into a bowl and stir in the brown flour. Mix together, then stir in the buttermilk. Turn out onto a floured surface and knead lightly. Shape the dough into a round. Place the loaf on the lightly floured baking sheet and bake for about 60 minutes. Leave to cool wrapped in a tea towel. This bread can also be baked in a 900g/ 2lb loaf tin dusted with flour.

Makes 10-12 slices
