Heat oven to
350F (175C). Have ready a baking dish that will just hold the apples
with a little space between. Cream butter or margarine and 3/4 cup
(180ml) brown sugar together until well blended. Stir in flour,
cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and salt and blend well.
Peel and core
apples. Score the outside of each apple deeply all over with the tines
of a fork. Press sugar mixture all over outside of each apple with hands
(if you press quite firmly the sugar mixture will stick well). Set
apples in baking dish. Put 1 tsp (5ml) brown sugar in the middle of
each. Bake about 40 minutes or until apples are tender and outsides are
crisp. Serve warm with cream.
