Preheat oven to 180C.

Line a 20cm square baking tin with
greaseproof paper and grease paper.

To prepare base: melt chocolate and
butter in a bowl over simmering water.

Mix well, in a small bowl, combine
flour, oats, sugar and soda.

Add chocolate mixture and mix well.

Press evenly into prepared tin and
bake for 15 minutes.

Set aside and allow to cool slightly.

To prepare filling: melt chocolate and
cool.

Sift together flour and baking powder;
set aside.

Cream butter and sugar until light and
fluffy.

Beat in eggs, one at a time.

Stir in vanilla essence and cooled
chocolate.

Fold in flour mixture and walnuts,
spread evenly over partially cooled base.

Bake until skewer inserted near centre
comes out barely moist, about 35 minutes, cool.

To prepare glaze: blend chocolate,
butter and water in a bowl over barely simmering water until
smooth.

Mix well, remove from heat and cool to
spreading consistency.

Spread over cooled filling and leave
to cool.

Cover and stand for several hours
before cutting.

Garnish each slice with a walnut, if
desired.
