Coat 1 liter
(4 cup) shallow ovenproof dish with cooking oil spray. Sift flour into
large bowl, rub in butter. Add enough milk to make a soft dough. Knead
dough gently on floured surface until smooth. Roll dough to
20 x 30cm rectangle. Spread with jam; top with combined apples, dates and
spice; leaving a 3cm border along one long side.
Starting from opposite
long side; roll up tightly. Cut into 8 pieces. Arrange pieces,
cut side up, in prepared dish. Pour over combined water and golden syrup.
Bake, uncovered, in moderate oven about 40 minutes or until browned
lightly and cooked through.
