The raspberry is sometimes referred to as the 'king' of berries and
is one of the sweetest pleasures of summer. When purchasing fresh
raspberries, select bright, well-shaped, firm berries with a natural
bloom. Avoid bruised, mouldy or damaged berries which are soft and
mushy. A stained punnet or basket indicates soft or overripe berries.
Although berries should be eaten as fresh as possible, if you choose
to store them, remove any damaged or mouldy fruit and avoid washing
berries prior to storage. Place fruit in a container lined with
absorbent paper. Cover loosely with plastic wrap, store in refrigerator
for 1-2 days.
Raspberries are a good source of vitamins A and C, potassium and only
contain 240 kilojoules per 100g.
Wash raspberries just prior to eating to avoid loss of flavor and to
prevent them becoming soggy.
Raspberries are one of the most delectable of fruits. Enjoy fresh
raspberries on their own or transform them into a culinary delight .
