Baked Pears Recipes

large, ripe dessert pears

seedless raisins

chopped, mixed nuts

pieces preserved ginger, finely chopped

clear honey

dry white wine

ginger syrup

Method :
  1. Cut a slice from the top of each pear.

  2. Using an apple corer, cut out a channel larger than the core itself.

  3. Mix together the raisins, nuts, chopped ginger and half the honey and pack into the pear cavities.

  4. Place the pears upright in a baking dish which just fits them.

  5. Bring the remaining honey, the wine and ginger syrup to the boil.

  6. Pour over the pears and cover with foil.

  7. Bake in the oven at 375oF (190oC), Gas 5 for 25 minutes, basting occasionally with the syrup.

  8. If you prefer a thicker sauce, pour off the liquid and fast-boil it to a syrupy consistency.

  9. Serve hot.

  10. Chilled yoghurt makes a good accompaniment.
