In saucepan, combine shortening and
molasses; heat to boiling. Remove from heat; stir in brown sugar. In mixer bowl, beat egg. Add molasses mixture; beat till
fluffy. Sift together dry ingredients; blend
into molasses mixture. Stir in nuts. Spread in greased 9x9x2-inch baking
pan. Bake in moderate oven (350°) about 20
minutes. Cut in bars.
