Double Chocolate Cake Recipe

Ingredients :

2 tbsp shortening

2 oz unsweetened chocolate (2 squares)

1 cup sugar

1 egg

1 1/2 cups sifted all-purpose flour

1 tsp baking soda

1/4 tsp salt

1 cup buttermilk or soured milk

1 tsp vanilla

Creamy Chocolate Icing

Method :

Heat oven to 350F (175C). Grease a 9-inch (23-cm) square cake pan. Combine shortening and chocolate in a small saucepan and set over lowest heat to melt. Combine sugar, egg and chocolate mixture in mixing bowl and beat well. Sift flour, baking soda and salt together and add to sugar mixture alternately with mixture of buttermilk or soured milk and vanilla. Pour into prepared pan and bake about 35 minutes or until top springs back when touched lightly in center. Cool in pan. Ice with Creamy Chocolate Icing.

Serves 8-10
