cooking apples, peeled, quartered, cored, thinly sliced
Method :
Mix sugar with the breadcrumbs, nuts,
cinnamon or spice, lemon peel and three quarters of the melted butter or
margarine. Fill 1.5 liter greased pie dish with
alternate layers of apples and crumb mixture, finishing with crumbs. Trickle remaining butter or margarine
over the top then bake until cooked, crisp and golden brown, allowing
3/4 to 1 hour in oven 375F, Gas 5. Serve with cream or custard.
A well loved and traditional pudding,
dressed up with walnuts.
