For the
batter, mix sifted flours with egg and water in one direction till
smooth. Strain. Heat oil for deep-frying and coat apple pieces with
plain flour, dip in batter and fry till golden brown. Dish and drain.
Remove all oil and put sugar and water to boil. Cook till syrup turns
light golden brown. Add fried apple pieces, mix to coat with syrup,
sprinkle sesame seeds on top and mix to coat. Arrange toffee apple on a
greased serving plate and serve immediately with a bowl filled with iced
cold water and ice cubes. Dip toffee apple into iced water to harden the
toffee before eating.
