I have a bad acne problem. Should I go
for facials or a clinic for acne treatment ?
Acne
is an inflammatory disorder of the oil glands of the skin (usually on
the face, chest and back) as a result of androgenic hormone interaction.
The non inflammatory components consists of blackheads, and whiteheads.
The inflammatory components consists of red lumps (papules); pus spots
(pustules), and deep boils like lesions, nodules and cyst. Untreated or
improperly treated acne will lead to scars, and pigmentary marks. Acne
being a medical inflammatory disorder of the skin should be treated by
medically qualified, and trained persons.
AHA peeling is useful for treatment of
sun (actinic) damaged or aged skin. Skin peels are sometimes useful for
pigmentary problems like Cholasma. Known side effects of skin peeling includes
chronic irritation, and photosensitive (sunsensitive) dermatitis. Repeated
peeling reduces the skin barrier, and thus allows for development of skin
cancers. In the long term, this may prove to be a concern but has yet to be
proven. Acne needs to be optimally treated not concealed. Consult your family
doctor or company doctor for a referral to a dermatologist for proper assessment
of your condition.
