Preheat the oven to 190C Gas Mark
5, grease a baking sheet. Sift the flour into a bowl and rub
in the butter until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Stir in the sugar, mix in the egg
and coffee essence. Roll the mixture into balls and
place on the baking sheet, or place teaspoonfuls of mixture on the
baking sheet. Bake for 20 minutes, until lightly
browned. To make the icing, cream the
butter until soft. Sift the icing sugar and gradually
beat it in, stir in the coffee essence and a little warm water, if
necessary. When the coffee kisses are cold,
sandwich them together with the icing.
