Heat oven to 350F (175C). Grease a 13
x 9 x 2 inch (33 x 23 x 5-cm) oblong cake pan. Combine whole-wheat
flour, wheat germ, all-purpose flour, baking soda, salt and rolled
oats together in a bowl, mixing well with a fork. Add honey and
melted shortening and blend well. Turn half of mixture into prepared
pan and pack it in the bottom evenly. Spread with
Honey-Date Filling. Drop the remaining rolled oats mixture by small spoonfuls
all over the top of the filling (doesn't worry if there are a few
small spaces). Bake 30 minutes or until nicely browned. Cool and cut
into bars.
